An amazing turnaround by Duddon Sports, on a par with the Liverpool comeback in the Champions League Final v AC Milan a few years ago, saw them lift the Furness FA Cup at Holker Street, with a 6-3 victory over fierce rivals Furness Rovers 'A'. Within minutes of the start, Rovers took the lead as Jack Ryan pounced on a through ball and his deflected shot wrong-footed Woody in the Duddon net. Duddon didn't recover and were constantly second to the ball, with their opponents looking the more determined. Soon after, things could have got worse for Duddon as Rovers frontman Ryan, a constant threat, shot inches wide. Duddon best chance of the half came with minutes left on the clock as a clearance out of the Rovers defence fell to Dec who's looping shot was palmed clear from under the bar by Rovers keeper Harri Brown.
Duddon almost levelled at the start of the second half as, firstly, Callums shot was blocked, then Nathan Watters follow up shot was cleared off the line by the Rovers defence. Straight from the clearance and Rovers almost went 2-0 up as Jack Ryan ran the full lenght of the field but his shot crashed against the Duddon bar. Rovers then doubled their lead as a ball into the Duddon box fell at the feet of Jack Ryan, who shot easily into the corner. Duddon made a tactical switch, swapping Jordan Thompson back into his usual midfield role and Neil Aspinall back into defence and moving Nathan Watters up front. Within minutes, the switch almost worked as Watters powered his way into the Rovers box, but keeper Brown was quick off his line to avert the danger. With 3 minutes left on the clock, it looked like it was Rovers title, but Duddon weren't beaten yet and a long clearance from defence by Neil, found Watters who turned and found himself in on goal and he made no mistake this time with a shot for 1-2. Duddon piled on the pressure and almost got an equaliser as Thommo header over from a few yards out. With 10 seconds left on the clock, it was that man again, Nathan Watters who stepped up, powered his way past the Rovers defence and fired home to send the Duddon supporters crazy. The goal came that late, there wasn't even time for Rovers to kick-off....Full time 2-2, extra time.....
Within minutes of the start of extra time, Duddon took the lead, Nathan Watters completing his hat-trick with another trademark shot. It was all Duddon now and they poured more misery on their opponents as a shot from Watters crashed down off the bar and bounced out, and with the linesman (Russian ??) flagging, the referee pointed to the centre spot for a goal to Duddon, 4-2 at half time.
Duddon increased their lead in the second half of extra time as Ben Spiers played Watters through, he looped the ball over the defence and with the Rovers keeper off his line, Dec cooly chipped over into the net for 5-2. Another great ball by Ben, helped on by Watters, found Rowly in on goal and he calmly side-footed past the Rovers keeper for 6-2...and a Tim Cahill celebration at the corner flag. Right on the stoke of full time, Jack Ryan completed his hat-trick with a simple tap in from a Rovers corner.....Full time..... Duddon Sports 6 Furness Rovers 'A' 3
